In addition to providing the Discovery Series for Young Audiences performances which reach over 40,000 children a year from 5 states, Theatre Bristol is proud to announce its continued efforts in working with children of our area by increased activities in our program The School of the Arts. Theatre Bristol is on a mission to increase awareness of the program and obtain funding to support our ongoing scholarship program to assist children otherwise unable to attend events.

Showbiz Saturdays
One of the more prominent parts of The School of the Arts is Showbiz Saturdays. Showbiz Saturdays is a day filled with excitement and new experiences. Youth learn about the many parts of the performing arts - dance, singing, painting, make-up and much more! Each session has diverse workshops that encourage children to explore new ideas and grow in self-confidence as they work with one another. Our talented instructors possess numerous talents in several arts areas that can boast of both good preparation and a wealth of experience in their respective fields.

These are thematic half-day or daylong sessions where youngsters explore theatre arts through classes and workshops. Call (423) 968-4977 for more information.

Storybook Live!
Completed grades K-12
July 14 thru 18, 2008 from 9 am to 3:30 pm

Theatre Bristol proudly announces our Summer School of the Arts for 2008. This year’s theme will be Storybook Live! focusing on characters from children's literature. Students will learn acting skills as they take part in humorous and dramatic skits based on some of the greatest personalities that fiction has to offer. Combining art with acting, the students will learn costuming and stagecraft skills as they build their own costumes and props. The week will culminate in a performance at the Paramount Center for the Arts on Friday, July 18, Tunes at Noon Concert Series.

Storybook Live! is open to students who have completed Kindergarten thru 12th grade. The cost is $100 per student. The Cathy DeCaterina School of the Arts will run from July 14-18. Classes will be from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Students should bring a lunch and a snack will be provided. Students should wear closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops, clogs or crocs), for better movement.

Owing to the success of last year’s format, music and dance will be offered only to the students who wish to participate. Each child will have a chance to perform, however no child will be pressed to sing or dance if they do not feel strong in that category. Theatre Bristol’s mission is to educate and entertain and make both enjoyable.

A special stagecraft class will be added to the curriculum for students wishing to learn the behind-the-scenes aspects of theatre. This class will only be open to grades 8 and up and will only be offered if there are enough students enrolled.
