DREAM
At the core of our company: Education
Everything we do at Theatre Bristol has an educational focus. Regardless of whether you participate in one of our plays or musicals on the stage of the Paramount Center for the Arts; attend a master class or workshop in our ARTspace & Gallery; accompany a Teaching Artist on a visit to one of the classrooms in the 500 schools we serve in the rural mountains of the Southern Highlands; or just drop by our office for a friendly visit - you can't help but be impressed by the quality and scope of our work. And our educational activities aren't just geared to young audiences, either. People of every age and walk of life are involved in our activities. Working closely with area educators and artists, carefully planned activity-oriented experiences challenge students and encourage complex thinking, teamwork and self-confidence.

As an outreach to over 60 school districts in 5 states, The Discovery Series inspires, educates, and entertains children from Pre-K to 12th grade and beyond. Many selections this season are taken from literature found on the required reading lists of area schools. (Public performances are listed in italics)

Schoolhouse Rock, Live
at Theatre Bristol’s ARTspace
Auditions: July 22 and 23, 2007
Performances: September 6, 7, 9, 13, 14, 20 & 21, 2007
A pop culture phenomenon come to the musical stage! The Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs is not only making a small-screen comeback, instructing a whole new generation to "Unpack Your Adjectives" and "Do The Circulation", it's lighting up stages everywhere, from school multi-purpose rooms to university and regional theatres all around the country. Tom, a nerve-wracked school teach nervous about his first day teaching, tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such beloved Schoolhouse Rock songs as "Just A Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly" and "Conjunction Junction."

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella
at the Paramount Center for the Arts - Season Ticket Show
Auditions:
August 26 and 27, 2007
Performances:
Nov. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10 & 11, 2007
The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodger's & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreations in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren, and again in 1997 starring Brandy and Whitney Houston (and seen by over 60 million viewers) were no less successful in transporting new generations to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.
Details: Musical Numbers include "In My Own Little Corner" "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" "Ten Minutes Ago" "Impossible" "Stepsisters' Lament".

"After all those years being stuck on a page, Did you ever imagine you'd see me onstage? Now I'm here, there's no telling what may ensue! No, there's no telling what! But I'll give you a clue…" So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ( My Favorite Year, Ragtime) have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all the Whos of Whoville! These classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young boy and "thinker of strange and wonderful thinks!" As each story unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss' subtle themes are, making this musical one that appeals to all ages.
